3D Printed Digital Dentures

The First Truly Accessible Direct 3D Printed Dental Prosthetic

Formlabs is expanding access to digital dentures with an efficient, cost-effective manufacturing solution, Formlabs Digital Dentures. Class II long-term biocompatible Denture Base Resin and Denture Teeth Resin enable dental professionals to produce 3D printed dentures accurately and reliably. Digital denture manufacturing fits seamlessly into traditional clinical protocol, but is also ready for purely digital workflows once they become widely adopted.

The Digital Denture Workflow

Dentures Scan
1. Scan

Using a desktop laboratory scanner, scan the fully articulated poured model and wax-rim to collect patient anatomy.

Dentures Design
2. Design

Import the scan data into CAD software and design the denture digitally.

Dentures Print
3. 3D Print

Bring the denture base and teeth designs into our nesting software, PreForm, for print preparation and easily send them to a Formlabs printer.

Dentures Prepare
4. Prepare

Wash the printed parts using Form Wash and remove supports.

Dentures Assemble
5. Assemble

Insert the teeth into the denture base, tack them together, and post-cure the denture in Form Cure to bond the parts together.

Dentures Finishing
6. Finish

Polish at low speeds with pumice and at high speeds using hi-shine polish compound before the final quality control.

Benefits of a Digital Denture Workflow

Using dental design software and 3D printing to manufacture dentures offers a number of instant advantages:

  • Low-cost production: Affordable hardware allows labs to expand production without adding substantial overhead.
  • Accurate, consistent, high-quality results: A directly 3D printed prosthetic means fewer steps and less variability — a more consistent workflow for a quality end product every time.
  • Intuitive, adaptable tools: The digital workflow fits into your traditional processes today and will be much easier to teach to tomorrow’s digitally savvy dental lab technicians.
  • Simplified, fast remakes: Digital denture designs are reusable, shareable, modifiable and easy to reproduce with 3D printing.
  • Truly custom teeth: Unlike pre-manufactured denture cards, digital dentures are completely patient-specific.

Digital Dentistry Cost Saving

Low Cost, Fast Return on Investment

By bringing the removables department digital, dental labs can grow or expand production without adding substantial overhead. A full denture printed in Denture Base Resin and Denture Teeth Resin costs 80% less in materials than a traditional denture using denture cards and acrylic.

What Our Customers Say About Working With Formlabs 3D Printers

“The Form 2 is a cost-efficient way for our lab to 3D print digital dentures. Because of the printer’s affordability, it is easier to have multiple printers running with different resins. Integration with Formlabs Dashboard and using their support for 3D printed dentures will be a critical part of our removables department as we move forward.”
