Formlabs Receives MDR Certification for New Dental Material

Dental LT Clear Resin (V2) is an improved version of Dental LT Clear Resin (V1) suitable for occlusal splints and bite splints. The new material prints high-quality clear parts and can be polished for superior aesthetics. It is also colorfast and resistant to fracture.

Berlin, Sep. 06, 2022Formlabs, the leader in 3D printing, introduces a new resin for the dental industry: Dental LT Clear Resin (V2) is an improved version of Dental LT Clear Resin (V1), suitable for occlusal splints. The new long-term, Class IIa, biocompatible material prints clear parts and can be polished for superior aesthetics. It is also colorfast and resistant to fracture.

The material, which has been available in the USA since June 2020, has now also received MDR (Medical Device Regulation) certification. The Medical Devices Regulation covers all medical devices sold in Europe, including Formlabs products.

The color and clarity of Dental LT Clear Resin (V2) is comparable to PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) used in milling and has a high resistance to discoloration. The material is also 60% less yellow than Dental LT Clear Resin (V1) while still offering the required rigidity (Shore hardness 78) for use in the dental field.

“Formlabs Dental offers 3D printers, materials, and workflows that meet the dental industry's requirements. In this way, they enable efficient, affordable and custom care while improving patient outcomes. The new material is perfectly suited for dental laboratories as well as dental and orthodontic practices,” says Stefan Holländer, Managing Director EMEA at Formlabs. “Patients assess their dental or orthodontic treatment based on the durability of the products and how comfortable they feel when they leave the practice. Dental LT Clear Resin (V2) is a high-performance material that lasts and improves the patient's experience.”

“I have been using Dental LT Clear Resin (V2) for 2 years now and it has become my go-to material for occlusal splint fabrication. The material is high performance; amazing clarity, precise fit, and creates a stable occlusion that patients report becoming very comfortable with. With Dental LT Clear Resin (V2), we have a digital splint workflow that is superior in speed, cost, and predictability. When looking at your ROI for going digital, Formlabs Dental makes that decision easy, and CLEAR.”

An extensively tested system for simple, cost-effective occlusal splints

Dental LT Clear Resin (V2) was developed by Formlabs Dental to work seamlessly with Formlabs 3D printers. An extensive validation and testing process makes sure prints work every time: quick setup, no in-field calibration, and no messy material handling.

Formlabs Dental is continuously working to develop new materials for dentistry while ensuring a growing number of supported indications on the Form 3B, Form 3B+, and Form 3BL dental 3D printers.
